10. I was anxious to lose no time, that I might myself superintend the measures necessary after repeal of the previous Orders. That repeal was adopted by me in Executive Council on the 18th Instant, and on the 20th Instant all Licensed Gambling in this Colony ceased. In consideration of the suddenness of the proceeding, I promised to return and have returned, from the amount paid by the Licensees for the current month, a sum equal to a week's rent. I have also refunded to them the portion of fees paid in advance for the period between the 20th and the 31st Instant. Many heavy losses must be endured by the Licensees through claims for salaries by their employés as well as by the sudden throwing into their hands of many buildings which must be entirely refitted before they can be hired as ordinary residences.
11. I was, therefore, glad, and surprised to find that the Licensees made no objection to the arrangement; and I think it only fair to them to state, that they have always exhibited an
